Who is the 64th Nayanamar?
Periyar is the 64 Nayanamar appointed by our Gurudevar
What is the reasoning behind appointing Periyar as the 64 Nayanamar?
The Siddhars have always followed the principle that “Service to God is service to mankind”. Periyaar awakened the Tamils and showed them what is self respect. He was a selfless leader. In order to recognize the enormous service of Periyaar, His Holiness Siddhar Arsayogi Karuvoorar awarded him the title of being the 64th Nayanar.
Out of the existing 63 Nayanmars, there exist a Nayanar named “Kalladi Nayanar”. He worshipped Lord Siva by pelting him with stones. On the similar line, Periyaar asked lot of questions about the Gods and made the people think about God. Hence, Periyaar is named as “Solladi Nayanar”. The literal meaning in Tamil for this title is “the one who pelt God with words”.
